Organizational Transformation to Community Policing

This recent study examined critical elements in the successful transformation of a traditional style police department to one that is community policing oriented. The project resulted in a better understanding of the issues involved in organizational transformation for police. In addition to conducting a national survey, , ILJ prepared detailed case studies of four sites (San Diego, Portland, St. Petersburg, and Tempe) that had established themselves as leaders in community policing.  Case study techniques included  interviews and focus group meetings with police, community members, elected officials, and others.. Study results have helped identify "best practices" for  integrating community policing throughout a department
