Legal Assistance for Victims

For the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) and Office on Violence Against Women (OVW), U. S. Department of Justice, ILJ partnered with the National Center for Victims of Crime to conduct a national evaluation of the OVW Legal Assistance for Victims (LAV) grant program.  The evaluation involved 180 grantees that provided civil legal assistance to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking.  Major tasks were two surveys of grantees; a process evaluation that included site visits to 20 programs; and an impact evaluation that involved interviews with 125 victims of domestic violence, a review of case data from 9 projects; and an analysis of outcome data from 3 sites.  A comprehensive final report on the evaluation was completed in 2004.
