The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors is pleased
to announce its annual workshop and symposium. The planned program includes
information on topical issues and training suitable for laboratory
directors/administrators and policy makers. The meeting will provide updates on
federal legislation and grants, recent court decisions, technical working groups and other
issues that affect crime laboratories. The annual ASCLD business meeting, including
updates on ASCLD initiatives, and the Delegate Assembly meeting for the American Society
of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD/LAB) will be included in the program.
Networking and enrichment activities are also planned. This meeting provides a
unique opportunity for crime laboratory directors to meet and discuss common issues and
problems. The symposium also serves as a forum for laboratory directors to provide
input on various ASCLD programs and advocacy issues.

The meeting is being sponsored by the National Forensic Science Technology Center
(NFSTC), through its cooperative agreement with the National Institute of Justice (NIJ),
U.S. Department of Justice.
Workshop
Registration
Registration for the workshops is $30 per day for full-day sessions or $15 for
half-day sessions. This fee covers the cost of daily continental breakfast and
beverage service. Lunch will be on your own. Attendance at each workshop is
limited, so please register early. Participation in the mentoring workshop is open but is
intended for participants in the ASCLD mentoring program.

Symposium
Registration
Registration for the symposium is $275. Registration provides access to
all symposium activities scheduled Tuesday, October 29, through Thursday, October 31,
2002, to include daily continental breakfast and beverage service, welcome reception on
Tuesday, October 29, and a closing banquet on Thursday, October 31. Lunch will be on
your own each day.
Refund Policy
Prior to Friday, August 30, there will be a 100% refund on
registration. After this date, substitutions may be made in lieu of refunds.
Hotel
The Renaissance Vinoy Resort is offering the government per diem rate of $89
single/double occupancy per night, plus tax. Conference rates are available at the
hotel from Saturday, October 26, through Thursday, October 31, 2002. Reservations
will be made for you according to the dates you indicate on the registration form.
The hotel will not accept individual call-ins. You will receive a confirmation once
your registration form has been processed.
Housing Allowance
A housing allowance for ASCLD members and invited guests is available for a
limited number of attendees. Housing for one ASCLD regular member per laboratory
will be provided for up to four days (Monday - Thursday) by the NFSTC through its
cooperative agreement with the National Institute of Justice on a first come - first
served basis. To qualify for the housing allowance, ASCLD members must be registered
for the meeting by Friday, August 30. Registrants must indicate on the
registration form that they are requesting the housing allowance.
Travel
Attendees are responsible for their own travel arrangements. Two airports
service the Tampa/St. Petersburg area: Tampa International and St.
Petersburg-Clearwater International.
Ground
Transportation
Expect cab fare from Tampa International, 22 miles from the Renaissance Vinoy
Resort, to be $48.00 one way. From St. Petersburg-Clearwater International, 12 miles
from the Renaissance Vinoy Resort, the cost is $30.00 one way.
SuperShuttle is a 24-hour airport shuttle
service. All guests using this method of transportation will be taken directly to
the Resort, non-stop. Courtesy desks are located at all baggage claim areas and the
current charge is $15.00 per person one-way and $28.00 round trip from either
airport. You can also make arrangements by calling 1-800-282-6817 or on-line at www.supershuttle.com.
Buses, coaches, and executive-style minibuses
are available through First Class Coach at 1-800-282-8020.
The 30th Annual ASCLD
Workshop and Symposium is a contract managed by the Institute
for Law and Justice.
