Laboratory Management Orientation Seminar - ISO/IEC 17025 *

This course is designed for personnel who will be actively engaged in applying the requirements of the laboratory quality management system in their day to day activities and who must understand the structure, purpose and value of the system documentation prepared by the laboratory to meet ISO/IEC 17025 - General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories.  The Forensic Amplifications originating from the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and ASCLD/LAB-International are also covered.

Documentation Writing - ISO/IEC 17025*

This seminar will assist participants who are involved in producing, or supervising those who produce, the management system documentation which must meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 - General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories, and the ASCLD/LAB-International, Supplemental Requirements.  The seminar will also provide some focus on the control of laboratory documentation and records related to the management system being accredited.  Some previous knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 is expected.

 The intention of the workshop is to provide a highly interactive experience for Leaders and Managers in ASCLD that will be motivational in nature, challenging and relevant to ongoing issues that they face in their life and work.  To this end the participants will engage in facilitated experiential activities that simulate the work environment and then be asked to use these activities to challenge the Leadership thinking and behaviors that may stand in the way of the results that they want.

Leadership and 360 Degree Feedback

 360-degree feedback has become a popular and effective tool for developing excellence in leaders in a variety of organizations. This session will provide participants with key information about the best ways to design, implement, and evaluate an effective 360-degree (multi-rater) feedback process in their agencies.   Issues of organizational buy-in, confidentiality, instrument selection and validity, training, executive coaching support, and action planning will all be covered.  Participants will learn a comprehensive process and also engage in participative activities as they identify practical applications of the session for their agency.

 

Getting Ready to Build a New Crime Laboratory

This workshop is designed for forensic professionals who believe that they need a new laboratory but just don’t know where to start. Tools and methodologies will be provided to attendees to help quantify, justify, and build support for capital investment in their forensic facilities. The course content will include issues and trends in the design of forensic facilities; assessing existing facilities and processes; determining whether to renovate or build new; and methodologies for sizing, scheduling, and costing a project. This workshop will be very participatory so attendees should come prepared to roll up their sleeves and try their hands at designing a laboratory. 

This 4-hour workshop will focus on: 

  • Common problems facing crime laboratory managers
  • New forensic trends that impact on design
  • How to assess your laboratory’s current and future needs
  • Quantifying your laboratory’s needs
  • How to develop effective financial strategies

 Requirements: Participants are encouraged to bring and share specific metrics about their existing laboratory, operations, staffing, and funding.  A short questionnaire will be provided online or on-site to gather this information before the workshop.
