Documentation of the Criminal Justice Initiative in the District of Columbia's Department of Corrections

For the National Institute of Corrections, ILJ staff documented the effects of the Criminal Justice Initiative in the District of Columbia's Department of Corrections. This program was intended to provide resources to develop a model academic and vocational education program within each of the system's facilities. Data was collected through interviews with staff, review of documents, and on-site visits. ILJ studied six main areas in the department's delivery of educational services: management and support services, academic programming, vocational and technical education, community programs, evaluation and research, and special programming. The final report included recommendations designed to improve and expand the D. C. Department of Corrections educational programming.
