• Electronic storage for program instructions and results.

• Application code is loaded from disk into memory and called to the processor as needed.

• Different kinds of memory

  • Random Access Memory (RAM): Read and write
  • Read Only Memory (ROM): Read only
  • Programmable ROM (PROM): Used to store small programs
